Stellar Protocol 26 Yardstick upgrade

A New Chapter for the Stellar Network

Stellar doesn’t stand still. On May 6, 2026, the network will upgrade to Protocol 26, codenamed Yardstick. It’s a big step forward. Validators will vote on the upgrade at 17:00 UTC, and if all goes well, the new protocol goes live that same day. This kind of coordinated upgrade is how Stellar keeps improving without chaos.

What Is Protocol 26, Exactly?

Think of it as a scheduled tune-up for the entire network. Stellar upgrades its core protocol periodically to improve performance, fix issues, and add new capabilities. Yardstick is Protocol 26, the latest in that series. Before it hits mainnet, it goes through testnet on April 16, 2026. That’s where developers catch anything unexpected before real funds are involved.

Do You Need to Do Anything?

It depends on who you are. If you’re a regular user, the answer is simple: nothing. Just keep using your wallet as normal. If you’re a developer running Stellar infrastructure, Core, Horizon, RPC, or Galexie, you’ll need to update your binaries after stable releases drop on April 8. SDK users should also update to the latest versions before the testnet and mainnet dates. The Stellar Development Foundation has published a full upgrade guide to walk technical teams through every step.

Why Does This Matter?

Protocol upgrades keep Stellar competitive. Every improvement makes the network faster, more reliable, and more capable for builders. That translates directly into better experiences for end users, cheaper transactions, smoother DeFi interactions, and a healthier ecosystem overall. When the foundation invests in upgrades like Yardstick, it signals long-term commitment to the network.

Lumexo Is Ready
